Weddings are like couples.
They come in all shapes and sizes.
Some couples spend months or more planning an elaborate, elegant and formal wedding. Other couples look forward to a casual wedding at a private home or waterside park with family and friends.
And then there is the couple who wants a very short and sweet ceremony and it doesn't matter if the guest list is 200+ or 2 people - they want it snappy and quick.
Having officiated hundreds of ceremonies, here is what I know for sure: if a wedding ceremony it short, it's weird. And if a wedding ceremony is too long, a couple may feel vulnerable, uncomfortable and exposed.
Most often, there is a happy medium and many engaged couples find it and have a wedding ceremony that is sweet, elegant and perfect for them and their family and friends.
And then there is the couple who wants a simple and short wedding ceremony in 10 minutes or less. If you are one of these couples, here are a few ideas to get you on to your celebration and honeymoon:
1) Find the Right "10 Minute" Officiant/Minister: Most short and sweet ceremonies end up at a judge's chamber or dry courthouse room. Nix this idea and move on to something more fabulous, particularly if you are being married outside of a traditional religious institution. Locate and select a non-denominational Wedding Officiant or Minister who can add some pizazz to your short wedding ceremony.
Many Officiants and Ministers create very personalized ceremonies and work with couples of all faiths and traditions. Others love to officiate ceremonies that are both traditional and contemporary. Having officiated hundreds of ceremonies, here is an industry secret: while an Officiant loves the involved and personalized wedding ceremony, he or she also loves the short and sweet ceremony. The simple and easy ceremony is uncommonly fun for most Officiants and Minister. Make a few phone calls and select an Officiant or Minister who is passionate about what they do and happy to get you married in 10 minutes or less!
2) Short Ceremony - Personalized Vows: In lieu of a robust ceremony, why don't you make your wedding vows the absolute centerpiece of your short and sweet ceremony? If you have guests, your vows not only become a lasting memory for the two of you but for your family and friends, too.
Write wedding vows that are authentic, compelling and express your commitment to your sweetheart. Your vows can also express what your partner can expect from you. In a short ceremony, vows are often "short and sweet." Instead of following the crowd, go for the short ceremony with fabulous vows and create a beautiful moment.
3) Vegas, Baby! A short and sweet ceremony is a perfect reason to elope and/or take close family and friends to Las Vegas. "Short and sweet" rules in Vegas and there is a big variety of fun and/or fancy options including the drive-thru Chapel. In lieu of Vegas, you can elope to any town or city that is fun or exciting to you!
